Bearing noises from the M3 E90 E92 rear differential

The later BMW M3 uses a hybrid differential made up from old style bearings and the new later type.

Many car drivers are now reporting a whining noise coming from the rear end of their M3.

Sometimes this can be wheel bearing or type noise, but often it is caused by pinion bearing failure.
